On the topic of government spending, our government is as predictable as ever. $23,000 was spent on a totem pole in Alaska as part of the Census effort. That sounds like a totally reasonable expenditure. Anytime I see a totem pole, my mind instantly jumps to the Census. Though, I will admit. I was surprised not to see Obama's face plastered somewhere on the totem pole. That showed an incredible degree of humility and modesty for him. After the whole Greek columns thing, I thought anything was possible.
And California is probably going to begin paying its bills with IOU's instead of actual money. I feel like I should be surprised, but I'm not. Economics can be a rather stubborn thing, and has a rather nasty tendency to slap you in the face when you ignore it too long. California is a de facto failed state, and this only underlines the point.
